Contractor worksheet

Construction Contract Template Checklist

Organize parties, scope, price, schedule, payments, changes, insurance, warranties, disputes, and signatures before legal review.

A good contract makes the project workflow visible. It should say what is included, how decisions become changes, when money is due, and what happens when conditions differ.

Attach a scope someone can price

Reference drawings and specifications by date, list inclusions and exclusions, state allowance assumptions, and identify owner-supplied items and permit responsibility.

Make changes a process

Define who can authorize work, how cost and time are presented, whether work may begin before signature, and how concealed or emergency conditions are handled.

Use local legal review

Contractor laws vary by state and project type and may require notices, formatting, cancellation rights, deposit limits, or specific clauses. Have qualified counsel adapt the final contract.

Questions

Is this a legal contract?

No. It is an issue checklist and drafting structure. Construction contracts are jurisdiction- and project-specific; obtain qualified legal review.

Should allowances be in the contract?

Yes. Define the item, included amount, tax and markup treatment, selection deadline, and how overages or credits become approved changes.
