How to use the change order generator
Start with the original contract amount and the net total of earlier approved changes. Enter the selling price of the added work and the credit for removed work. These are client prices, including your overhead and profit, rather than raw material costs.
Describe the actual change: quantities, selections, who supplies materials, and what comes out of the original scope. Add the reason, working days affected, and agreed payment terms. Print the completed record or save it as a PDF.
A change order example
A $24,000 contract has no earlier changes. The client adds $1,800 of work and removes a $300 item. This change adds $1,500, bringing the contract to $25,500 before applicable tax. If earlier approved changes added $2,000, the revised total is $27,500.
Keep the price and schedule conversations together. An extra fixture may take only a few hours to install but still shift completion if it arrives late. Record the agreed dates in the notes.
Before the change goes ahead
Check that the scope describes both the addition and the credit. Identify tax treatment and when the change is payable.
